Maternal and Newborn Mortality: The Global Struggle for Survival

Despite significant global improvements, mothers and newborns continue to face complications during pregnancy and birth. Their chance of survival depends on where they live and the resources available to them.

In 2022, 98% of the 2.3 million newborn deaths were from developing countries

Women in low-income countries are 35 times more likely to die from complications in pregnancy or childbirth

Many leading causes of maternal and newborn deaths in developing countries are preventable or treatable
